In a bid to promote education, digital literacy, and cultural exchange, the United States has launched the “Window on America” centre at the National Library branch in Katsina State, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria.

The initiative aims to serve as a hub for learning, technology, and youth engagement, particularly benefiting students and young professionals in the state.

Speaking at the launch ceremony on Tuesday, April 9, 2025, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, commended the effort and urged institutions to make active use of the centre by organising educational and recreational programmes for the public.

“We must protect this space from misuse, especially by young people involved in internet-related crimes,” he said, adding that he would seek the governor’s support and encourage government participation in the centre’s activities.

The Head of the National Library in Katsina, Hajiya Amina Maje Sayyadi, said the facility would offer training on education, climate change, writing, leadership, and scholarship opportunities in U.S. universities. She noted that Katsina was the only state chosen among 33 branches of the National Library for the project.

“We were selected based on photos we submitted. Despite not visiting physically, the U.S. Embassy approved our centre,” she added.

The Director of the Window on America in Katsina expressed optimism about continued collaboration, saying weekly activities would be held to ensure the centre remains impactful.

The launch event was attended by government officials, representatives from educational institutions, and student bodies. The centre is expected to boost learning opportunities, cultural understanding, and technological advancement among youth in Katsina.
